In his college years, Pankaj Tripathi, an ABVP activist, spent a week in jail

On Monday, Pankaj Tripathi turns 46, and we think back to the period when he first mentioned going to jail. When he participated in student politics, he was once imprisoned for seven days.

Pankaj joined the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) while he was a student at Patna’s Magadh University, according to a 2019 PTI article. You don’t have anything to do in jail, he told the news agency as he described Beur jail in Patna. No cooking, no cooking meetings, nothing. You are all by yourself. A man starts learning about himself when he is incredibly lonely. In those seven days, I met myself. When I began reading Hindi literature, I became aware of how out of place I was in it. That entirely changed me,” he said.

Many of his old ABVP colleagues are now MLAs in Bihar, he added in an interview with The Lallantop in 2020. Additionally, he noted that the communist parties in the area and the RJD-Congress coalition government in Bihar at the time had organised a protest against a shooting event in Madhubani in which police opened fire on students.

We had to stay in a different barrack since we were political prisoners, and since it was close to the Christmas break for the courts, we had to stay for a week. We were released later on bail.

Kangana Ranaut compares herself to Big B, saying, “After Amitabh Bachchan, if someone has received so much love…,” to which internet users respond, “best joke.”

Even though Kangana Ranaut has been receiving a lot of attention for her public talks, her comparison of herself to Amitabh Bachchan at a recent speech at an election rally has generated a lot of controversy online.

Actress Kangana Ranaut, who is well-known for her blunt remarks, is presently engaged in the Lok Sabha election campaign. She is a candidate for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the Himachal Pradesh district of Mandi. Although her statements in public have garnered a lot of attention, her comparison of herself to Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan in a recent speech at an electoral rally has sparked a lot of conversation online.

“Aisa lagta hai ki mano itna pyaar aur itna sammaan, ki wo Kangana, chahe Rajasthan chali jau, chahe mai West Bengal chali jau, chahe mai Delhi chali jau, chahe mai Manipur chali jau, sara desh hairaan hai… Meher daave se keh sakti hu ke Amitabh Bachchan ji ke baad aaj kisiko industri me milta hai to wo mujhe milta hai (The entire country is startled… there seems to be so much love and respect everywhere I go, whether it Rajasthan, West Bengal, Delhi, or Manipur). At the gathering, she declared, “I can state with confidence that, after Amitabh Bachchan, if anyone receives such love and respect in the industry, it is me.

Since then, the video of her statement has gone viral and sparked a range of emotions from online users. Despite her recent run of box office disappointments, many people have expressed sarcasm over her comparison to one of Bollywood’s most beloved legends. After releasing her final successful movie in 2015, Kangana has a string of 15 consecutive failures. As it shared the video on X (previously Twitter), a verified parody account said, “Here she is comparing herself to Amitabh Bachchan 😂😂.”

Another Twitterati said, “Judging by her speeches, Kangana Ranaut might be the first actress in the nation to get a national award for her role as an election candidate.”

It was called the “best joke of the year” by one user and the “peak level of self-obsession” by another.

“The next stage of self-obsession is this.” Following a string of poor performances, Kangana Ranaut equated herself to Amitabh Bachchan. According to a verified X account that supports the Congress, “Nobody has ever insulted Amit Ji like this before.”

In response, another Twitter user sent a photo of the headline of an old news story detailing Kangana’s 2022 action film Dhaakad’s poor box office performance—which ended up being a huge failure. The headline stated, “Dhaakad box office collection: Kangana Ranaut’s film sells 20 tickets and collects Rs 4420 on day 8.”
