Succession creator Jesse Armstrong jokes about King Charles at Emmys 2022
At the 2022 Emmy Awards, HBO’s Succession took home the trophy for Best Drama Series. Creator of the show, Jesse Armstrong. Jesse Armstrong, the creator of the television series Succession, stunned everyone when he accepted the award on-air by making fun of Prince Charles’ recent ascension to the throne.
Jesse, the show’s creator, joined the rest of the HBO crew on stage to claim the trophy. Big week for successions. New king in the UK…for us. Evidently a little more voting was involved in our winning than Prince Charles. I am not claiming we’re more legitimate in our position than he is. We will leave that up to the other people. Jesse stated in his acceptance speech.
After a 70-year reign, Queen Elizabeth II passed away on Thursday at the age of 96 in her vacation home in the Scottish Highlands, Balmoral. Charles, who is 73 years old, immediately ascended to the throne of the United Kingdom as well as 14 other countries, including Australia, Canada, Jamaica, and New Zealand.
At the Emmys, Succession received nominations in 14 acting categories. The programme won the award over Euphoria, Ozark, Severance, Squid Game, Stranger Things, and Yellowjackets. When Succession last competed for an Emmy, in 2020, it won the best drama prize along with eight other honours. The fourth season of the programme is now in production. Succession also features Brian Cox, Jeremy Strong, Kieran Culkin, and Matthew Macfadyen, who won the award for “Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.”
