Why Kevin Feige didn’t recast Chadwick Boseman’s T’Challa in Black Panther sequel: ‘World is still processing the loss’

After late actor Chadwick Boseman passed away from colon cancer in 2020, Black Panther producer Kevin Feige stated that they are not considering recasting for the late actor’s role in the franchise. He was 43. Kevin stated that they would rather honour his memory in the movie’s follow-up, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, the film’s follow-up, will include additional information about T’Challa’s sister Shuri (played by Letitia Wright) and depict the leaders of the kingdom of Wakanda battling to defend their country from invading forces after King T’Challa’s passing. Black Panther, released in 2018, is the first superhero movie to receive an Academy Award nomination for best picture because to Chadwick’s ground-breaking performance. At the age of 43, he passed away.

In an interview with Empire, Kevin stated, “It just felt like it was much too soon to recast,” when discussing how to honour Chadwick’s legacy. Marvel, according to Stan Lee, is a representation of the world beyond your window. And we had discussed how everything we produce has a relatable and human component, despite how incredible and otherworldly our characters and storylines are. And Ryan incorporated that into the narrative.

“Yes, the discussions were solely focused on ‘What do we do next?’ And how could Chadwick’s legacy—and the work he had done to make Wakanda and the Black Panther into these amazing, inspiring, and iconic concepts—continue? That was the main focus of the movie’s sequel, Kevin stated.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, directed by Ryan Coogler, will also feature Riri Williams (played by Dominique Thorne), a young genius who transforms into the hero Ironheart by designing armour that is comparable to Tony Stark’s. According to Variety, the movie will open in theatres on November 11 of this year.

Letitia Wright, who made a name for herself as T’Challa’s sister Shuri in the critically acclaimed Black Panther, has admitted that she sensed the presence of her late co-star Chadwick Boseman during filming the eagerly awaited sequel. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which was produced after Chadwick’s demise, will include Letitia reprising her role.

Family Star review

The Hindustan Times’ review of the movie Family Star, starring Vijay Deverakonda and directed by Parasuram Petla, suggests that the film struggles to make a mark or entertain, with issues reminiscent of Geetha Govindam (2018). The film tests patience and fails to maintain interest as it progresses.

The review criticizes the plot of Family Star, stating that it is thin and defies logic, making it difficult to enjoy. It also suggests that the film’s portrayal of middle-class life is caricaturish, as if it was written by someone unfamiliar with the realities of such a life.
