Battle for UP: Campaigning to end today in 58 Assembly seats

Campaigning for the first stage of Uttar Pradesh assembly elections will cease at 6pm. Tuesday. Only door-to-door canvassing is allowed.

The 58 parliamentary constituencies in 11 districts will go to the polls on February 10.

Agra District Magistrate P.N. Singh said no large-scale projects were allowed. A separate control room has been set up in each of the nine parliamentary constituencies.

Liquor stores will remain closed until Election Day on Feb. 10, district officials said.

A total of 129 paramilitary force companies were deployed. Traffic restrictions are in effect.

On February 10, nine parliamentary constituencies in Agra district and the BJP MLA will go to polling stations. Polling workers will move out of 3,911 polling places on Wednesday. Nine constituencies have 3.461 million voters and 107 candidates.

While Samajwadi Party Chairman Akhilesh Yadav and his ally Jayant Choudhary, RLD President, have been campaigning hard in rural areas with deep pockets, all the BJP stalwarts, from Amit Shah, Hema Malini to Raj Nath Singh, JP Nadda, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is running alongside his two deputies, Keshav Maurya and Dinesh Sharma.

Campaigning has been hampered by Covid-19 protocols and a slew of restrictions. Continued cold wave conditions also added to the challenge for candidates.

Kangana Ranaut, the BJP’s Lok Sabha candidate from Mandi for the 2024 elections, expressed gratitude towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi for her political entrance. In an interview with Times Now, she questioned whether she joined politics due to her movies’ poor box office performance, comparing it to Shah Rukh Khan’s previous unsuccessful films.

Kangana responded to a question about her career, stating that she has never had a flop. She compared Shah Rukh Khan’s films to Pathaan, Queen, and Manikarnika, noting that if she had a flop in Emergency, it would be a big hit. Kangana compared her career to Shah Rukh Khan, who had consecutive flops for ten years. She also mentioned that she had not had a single hit for 7-8 years before Queen, but after that, she had a few good movies.

No stars from OTT?

The last generation of stars, known for their talent and demand, are now able to showcase their talents more through OTT.
