Bihar set to get its 4th expressway, will connect Gorakhpur to Siliguri

Bihar is ready to open a second highway-this highway will run from Gorakhpur in the east of Uttar Pradesh to Siliguri in West Bengal. According to Livehindustan, a sister publication of the Hindustan Times, most of the proposed highway will pass through northern Bihar.

The report further stated that this new road will become a lifeline for people living in northern Bihar. According to Livehindustan, this will not only make commuting between Bihar and Bangladesh easier, but will also open up new trade routes.

According to Livehindustan, the central government approved the highway in principle, and the Bihar State Highway Construction Department will start construction soon.

Currently, there is no road connection between Gorakhpur and Siliguri, which is why it takes nearly a day to cover the distance between these two cities. The proposed highway will reduce the distance between Gorapkhpur and Siliguri to within 600 kilometers. According to Livehindustan, most of it (about 416 kilometers) will pass through northern Bihar. It will enter Bihar via Gopalganj, then pass through Siwan, Chhapra, Muzaffarpur, Sitamarhi, Madhubani, Supaul, Saharsa, Purnia, Kishanganj, and then reach Siliguri. According to Livehindustan, this will be a newly built highway and will not include any existing roads.

Since the speed of the vehicles on the highway is very fast, the route will be maintained to keep the road straight.

This will be the fourth highway in Bihar. One such road is being built between Aurangabad and Jaynagar (located in the Madhubani district). The second one is being built between Laxor and Patna, and it will go to Kolkata. The other was proposed between Buxar and Bhagalpur.

According to Livehindustan, the Gorakhpur-Siliguri highway will be connected to Azamgarh and other cities in Uttar Pradesh by connecting roads, which will eventually make the connection with Delhi easier.
