British Airways flight lands, tilts sideways and takes off at Heathrow

A British Airways plane was forced to abort its landing at Heathrow due to strong winds. A video of the incident went viral on social media, and the plane was seen trying to land before taking off again to avoid an accident.

The incident occurred on Monday, during Britain’s Cory Storm, which saw winds of up to 90 mph (about 144 kph) knocking thousands of homes out of power.

Video footage shared by Big Jet TV on Twitter shows the A321 British Airways plane initially attempting to land on the runway but can be seen with its nose raised and its tail almost touching the ground, described as ” tail shot” in the tweet.

The right wing then lifted off, the plane banked along the runway at a dramatic angle due to high winds, and the pilot took off again to reduce the danger.

A British Airways spokesman told the media in a statement: “Our pilots were well trained to handle a range of scenarios including extreme weather conditions and our crew landed the aircraft safely.”

Twitter users who saw the video praised the plane’s pilot’s timely decision to avoid the landing and try again.

The British news agency Press Association quoted one of the airline’s pilots as saying it was a “standard event that happens regularly”.

“If in doubt, you can walk around … it doesn’t even have to be bad weather. If it looks like you’re not going to land in the landing zone around you,” the agency quoted a pilot as saying.
