Chill in hills: Snow, rain forecast in Himachal Pradesh till December 4

The western disturbance active in the area will bring rain and snow to Himachal Pradesh until December 4.

Surend Paul, director of the Shimla Meteorological Center, said on Tuesday that the state had issued a yellow weather warning on December 3 for snowfall in the mountains and thunderstorms and lightning in the central mountains. Another western disturbance is likely to hit the area on December 4.

The Meteorological Department predicts that due to snowfall, basic services such as electricity and communications in the upstream areas of Kinnaur, Lahaul-Spiti, Chamba and Shimla will be disrupted and roads will be blocked. However, it will not have an impact on agriculture.

The Kullu and Lahaul-Spiti district governments advise tourists and local residents to avoid going to higher places during this period. The state’s lowest temperature rises by 1-2°C, but the night temperature is lower than 3-4°C.

The lowest temperature in Shimla, the state capital, is 6.8°C, while the lowest temperature in Dharamsala is 7.8°C.

The tourist destinations of Manali, Palampur, Dalhousie and Kufri set minimum temperatures of 2.2°C, 6°C, 7.3°C and 5.6°C respectively.

Since planting has just ended, rain is vital to rabies crops.
