Covid hospital, national highways: PM Modi to launch 22 projects in poll-bound Manipur today
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will today unveil and lay the foundation for 22 development projects worth 4,800 crore in Imphal, the capital of Manipur. Among them, 13 projects with a total value of approximately Rs 1,850 crore will be completed, while the remaining nine projects with a total value of approximately Rs 2,950 crore will be laid.
According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), these projects cover various sectors in the northeastern states, including road infrastructure, drinking water supply, housing, skills development, urban development, and health.
The Prime Minister will unveil a steel bridge over the Barak River on NH-37. The construction cost of the bridge exceeds 750 million rupees. The PMO stated that the infrastructure will enhance “a seamless connection from Imphal to Silchar (Assam) throughout the year and reduce traffic congestion.”
In addition, a total of 2,387 mobile towers costing nearly 11.1 billion rupees will also be completed. Modi will also launch a number of projects worth 396 crore rupees to provide clean and regular drinking water to every household in the Imphal, Tamunlong and Senapati regions. The prime minister said on Twitter on Monday that he would be in Manipur to “promote the state’s healthcare challenges.” PMO details indicate that the 200-bed hospital will be located in Kiyamagei and will cost nearly 370 million rupees in cooperation with the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO). The Prime Minister will also launch three projects, “Impal Smart City Mission”, with development costs exceeding 1.7 billion rupees.
Projects that will lay the foundation stone include a state-of-the-art cancer hospital in Imphal, valued at nearly Rs 1.6 billion on a public-private partnership (PPP) basis. PMO said in a statement: “This cancer hospital will greatly benefit the people of the state to reduce out-of-pocket expenses, otherwise they must go outside the state to obtain cancer-related diagnosis and treatment services.”
