Gorakhpur region to get 3rd expressway, will benefit 20 districts in state
Uttar Pradesh will get another highway. Livehindustan, a sister publication of the Hindustan Times, reported that the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has appointed a consultant to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) for the 500-kilometer Gorakhpur-Shamli highway.
Only after the DPR is finalized will the final router of the proposed highway be known. But according to Livehindustan, it will pass through 20 districts, including Sant Kabirnagar, Basti and Siddharth Nagar.
According to Livehindustan, this will be the third highway from Gorakhpur. Currently, a connecting highway to the Purvanchal highway is being constructed in the area. Livehindustan added that 40% of the work on this connecting road has been completed. It further stated that it is preparing DPR for another 519 km long road that will connect Gorakhpur to Siliguri in West Bengal.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath recently talked about how the number of highways in Uttar Pradesh has increased significantly in the past few years. He delivered a speech at an event in Shah Jahanpur, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the cornerstone of the Ganges Highway. He said that from 1947 to 2017, only one highway was built in the state, but six highways are being built since then. 594-The one-kilometer Ganges Expressway is expected to be the longest expressway in Uttar Pradesh. Its construction cost is 36,200 crore rupees.
Starting near the Bijauli village in Meerut, the Ganga Expressway will extend to near the Judapur Dandu village in Prayagraj, passing Meerut, Hapur, Bulandshahr, Amroha, Sambhal, Budaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, Rae Bareli and Pratapgarh.
There will be a 3.5-kilometer-long airstrip on the highway to assist Air Force aircraft in emergency take-off and landing in Shahjahanpur.
The Ganges Highway will shorten the travel time between Delhi and Praia Graj to only 7 hours. It was approved on November 26, 2020, and will be put into use in 2024.
