Grammy Awards 2022 moved to April 3, to be held in Las Vegas for the first time

The Grammys, which have been delayed due to a surge in cases of the Omicron variant of Covid-19 across the U.S., will be held in Las Vegas for the first time in April.

The 64th Grammy Awards was scheduled for January 31 in Los Angeles, with nominees including Justin Bieber, Billie Eilish and Olivia Rodrigo.

Hosted by Trevor Noah, the show will take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on April 3.

“We’re excited to bring the Grammys to Las Vegas for the first time with a world-class show,” Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr said in a statement.

Organisers have previously said holding the Los Angeles ceremony on Jan. 31, the original date, “simply involves too many risks.”

The Grammys are one of several entertainment industry events that have been postponed in hopes of reducing sky-high Covid-19 caseloads in the coming months. Film and TV events like the Critics’ Choice Awards and the Producers Guild Awards have also been postponed, while this week’s Sundance Film Festival is taking place online.

The Oscars are still on March 27, a week before the rescheduled Grammys.

Jazz and R&B artist and bandleader Jon Batiste has the most Grammy nominations this year with 11. As a knock-on effect of the move, Country Music’s CMT Music Awards will be moved from April 3 to later that same month.

Family Star review

The Hindustan Times’ review of the movie Family Star, starring Vijay Deverakonda and directed by Parasuram Petla, suggests that the film struggles to make a mark or entertain, with issues reminiscent of Geetha Govindam (2018). The film tests patience and fails to maintain interest as it progresses.

The review criticizes the plot of Family Star, stating that it is thin and defies logic, making it difficult to enjoy. It also suggests that the film’s portrayal of middle-class life is caricaturish, as if it was written by someone unfamiliar with the realities of such a life.
