“He’s progressing nicely,” Pakistan’s top player named by Ricky Ponting to win the T20 World Cup.

It’s been just over a year since Imran Khan made his debut for Pakistan, and he’s already making a name for himself. Ricky Ponting, one of the greatest cricket players of all time, has even named him as a potential winner of the T20 World Cup.

“He’s a very talented player,” Ponting said of Khan. “I think he’s got the potential to be a real star in this format.”

It’s high praise from a legend, and it’s certainly encouraging for Khan’s future prospects. He’s still got a long way to go, but if he can keep progressing at this rate, there’s no telling how far he can go.

The Indian cricket team is currently in Sri Lanka for a three-match Test series. The first Test match ended in a draw, with the second Test currently underway. The third and final Test will be played next week.

One of the key players for Sri Lanka in the series has been Wanindu Hasaranga. The 23-year-old spinner has been in excellent form, taking nine wickets in the first Test match.

Hasaranga has caused problems for the Indian batsmen, with many of them struggling to score runs off him. One player who has struggled in particular is Sanju Samson.

The Kerala batsman was dismissed for a duck in the first innings of the first Test, and was forced to retire hurt in the second innings after being hit on the helmet by a Hasaranga delivery.

Speaking to the Indian Express, former Sri Lankan cricketer Muttiah Muralitharan said that Samson “cannot choose” Hasaranga.

“He (Hasaranga) has been bowling well. Sanju Samson cannot choose him, he has to play him. Even Hardik Pandya is not confident against him,” Muralitharan said.
