IAS, HAS officers to teach in govt schools of Himachal once a fortnight

The state government has instructed Indian Administrative Services (IAS) and Himachal Pradesh Administrative Services (HAS) officials to attend classes in these schools under their jurisdiction at least every two weeks in order to improve the “education standards of public schools”.

Chief Secretary Ram Subhag Singh (Ram Subhag Singh) has issued instructions in this regard. The Higher Education Bureau also issued a letter to all regional education officials instructing them to contact the nearest administrative official.

In a review of the work of the education sector in August, the Chief Secretary recommended that administrators launch a new initiative in the state. The administrative staff in the class will share their experience with the students and guide them in deciding their own careers.

The idea is that if the administrator visits the school, it will help build parents’ trust in the public school. In addition, the administrative staff will also know if there are any defects in the school infrastructure. “The school will periodically send out reports of administrative staff visits and will further submit them to the government,” said Rajiv Sharma, the Minister of Education.

At the same time, teachers believe that this move will have a negative and positive impact. “When you say that it is strengthening the education standards of public schools, it is like destroying the teacher community. Does it mean that teachers are weak when they teach?” said a teacher who asked not to be named.

He said that the government system should be blamed more on the poor performance of government schools than teachers.

“The positive side is that when an official visits the school, he will understand the problems facing the teaching community and the additional workload they must bear in addition to performing their main teaching duties,” another teacher said. .

“There are not many students in Himachal who choose central and state services. Administrative staff visits to the school will definitely motivate students. If the government maintains consistency, this is a good step,” said academician Dr. Mamraj Pundir.

Decline in the number of IAS and IPS officials in tribal areas

The Jinnauer district bordering China was granted tribal status in 1967 because 50% of the population there is tribal. The tribal area Kinnaur is also known as the Super Achievers area. The difficult terrain makes life difficult, forcing people to choose government jobs.

Due to the tribal status, many officials in the area later became IAS and IPS officials, and many of them took advantage of job retention to enter the central and other national service departments.
