In Bengaluru, torrential rains have triggered massive floods; the IMD predicts more to come

BENGALURU: Heavy rains battered large parts of Bengaluru, killing at least two people and leaving many others scrambling for shelter. Only one of three workers trapped in a flooded pipeline in Ullal Upanagara managed to escape.

On Tuesday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an Orange alert for Bengaluru’s urban and rural districts, predicting heavy rain for the next 4-5 days.

Several parts of India’s IT capital were inundated after Tuesday night’s unprecedented rainfall, which lasted until early Wednesday morning, causing property damage and despair among the city’s 12 million residents.

People and vehicles were forced to wade to safety in areas such as Nayandahalli, Wilson Garden, Silk Board, and Cambridge layout, among others.
