India reports 2,82,970 new Covid cases, active cases highest in over 7 months

India’s daily coronavirus (Covid-19) infections jumped to 2,82,970 as the country surged after a small drop in daily records. This brings the overall rebound to 3,79,01,241 cases, including 8,961 of the Omicron variant, according to figures published on the Union Ministry of Health website. Omicron cases have increased by 0.79% since Tuesday, the ministry informed.

The figures also showed the death toll reached 4,87,202 after more than 400 people died from the viral disease.

The country had 18,31,000 active cases as of Wednesday morning, the highest level in more than seven months. The data shows that active cases currently account for 4.83% of the total cases. The national cure rate is 93.88%. In the past 24 hours, 1,88,157 people have recovered from viral respiratory illness. The total recovery rate is now 3,55,83,039.

According to the data, the daily positivity rate was 15.13%, while the weekly positivity rate was 15.53%.

In terms of vaccinations, authorities have administered 1.5888 million doses in a nationwide vaccination campaign.

Partha Sarathi Deb passed away on Friday, and his remains were taken to Technician’s Studio at 12 pm.

Bengali actor Partha Sarathi Deb, aged 68, passed away at a Kolkata hospital while undergoing treatment, according to his family.

Partha passed away at 11:50 pm on Friday night due to COPD-related ailments. He had been admitted to state-run M R Bangur hospital for the last month, and his condition worsened over the past week, and he was in the ICU.

Actor Jeet expressed sadness over the loss of colleague and WBAF committee member Partha Sarathi Deb on X, sharing a photo and offering condolences to his bereaved family and friends.

Actress Rupanjana Mitra announced the news on Facebook, writing a lengthy note in Bengali.

Partha, the vice president of the West Bengal Motion Picture Artists Forum, condoled the death of actor Amit Shah and announced that his body would be taken to Technician Studio, a familiar place for him.

The forum is deeply saddened by the actor’s passing and will keep his remains at Technician’s Studio on March 23, where his loved ones, teammates, and well-wishers can pay their last respects.
