India sees sharp spike in Covid infections with 33,750 fresh cases, deaths dip

According to the latest news from the Alliance Ministry of Health, India reported a sharp increase in the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) infection rate for the sixth consecutive day after recording 33,750 new cases in the past 24 hours. As many as 27,553 new Covid-19 cases were reported a day ago. The Ministry further stated that the number of active cases in the country is now 1,45,582.

The number of confirmed infections of the highly spread Omicron variant has climbed to 1,700, and Maharashtra has maintained its position as the largest contributor with 510 cases. Delhi remains the second largest contributor with 351 cases, followed by Kerala (156 cases), Gujarat (136 cases) and Tamil Nadu (121 cases).

The country has had 123 Covid-related deaths in the past 24 hours, a decrease of 161 from the 284 the day before. The total number of Covid-related deaths in the country is now 4,81,893. In addition, as many as 10,846 people have recovered from viral diseases, bringing the country’s total Covid-related recovery to 3,42,95,407.

Although the country’s active cases are less than 1% (0.42) of the total cases, the current recovery rate is 98.20%.

In the ongoing vaccination campaign, so far, the country has received 1,456.8 billion doses of vaccine.

Although testing capabilities across the country have increased, the country’s current weekly positive rate is 1.68%, and the daily positive rate is 3.84%. At the same time, India has begun to vaccinate its beneficiaries against the Covid-19 disease. 15-18 years old age group. At present, only Bharat Biotech’s locally manufactured vaccine “Covaxin” is used to vaccinate this age group.
