India’s daily Covid tally breaches 1-lakh mark, Omicron count at 3,000

India crossed the 100,000 mark in its daily Covid-19 tally on Friday, recording as many as 1,17,100 new cases in the past 24 hours. The current number of active cases in the country currently stands at 3,71,363, according to the latest updated figures from the Federal Ministry of Health and Family Affairs.

The last time the country recorded more than 100,000 cases in a single day was on June 6, 2021, when a second wave of the virus was raging across India.

The number of highly contagious Omicron in the country crossed the 3,000 mark (3,007 to be exact) and 1,199 patients were also cured. The fast-spreading strain is now present in 27 states.

The daily positivity rate has now reached 7.74%, while the weekly positivity rate is 4.54%.

302 patients died from related complications, bringing the death toll to 483,178. As many as 30,836 people have recovered from the illness in the past 24 hours, bringing the cumulative total to 3,43,71,845. This resulted in a recovery rate of 97.57%. The country has so far tested more than 680 million samples for the virus, the health ministry said.

In addition, more than 1.49 billion doses of vaccine against Covid-19 have been administered to beneficiaries as part of a national vaccination campaign launched about a year ago.

Partha Sarathi Deb passed away on Friday, and his remains were taken to Technician’s Studio at 12 pm.

Bengali actor Partha Sarathi Deb, aged 68, passed away at a Kolkata hospital while undergoing treatment, according to his family.

Partha passed away at 11:50 pm on Friday night due to COPD-related ailments. He had been admitted to state-run M R Bangur hospital for the last month, and his condition worsened over the past week, and he was in the ICU.

Jeet honours Rupanjana with a lengthy message

Actor Jeet expressed sadness over the loss of colleague and WBAF committee member Partha Sarathi Deb on X, sharing a photo and offering condolences to his bereaved family and friends.

Actress Rupanjana Mitra announced the news on Facebook, writing a lengthy note in Bengali.

Partha, the vice president of the West Bengal Motion Picture Artists Forum, condoled the death of actor Amit Shah and announced that his body would be taken to Technician Studio, a familiar place for him.

The forum is deeply saddened by the actor’s passing and will keep his remains at Technician’s Studio on March 23, where his loved ones, teammates, and well-wishers can pay their last respects.
