LPG prices in India have risen again, crossing the ₹1,000 mark in Delhi.

According to news agency PTI, cooking gas LPG prices rose for the second time this month by ₹3.50, pushing LPG cylinder prices across the country above ₹1,000.

Prices for domestic cylinders right now:

14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinders will be available for 1,003 in Delhi and Mumbai, 1,029 in Kolkata, and 1,018.5 in Chennai starting today.

Domestic LPG cylinder prices from May 19
Delhi 1,003
Mumbai 1,002
Kolkata 1,029
Chennai 1,018.5

On May 7, gas prices were also increased by $50, causing LPG cylinder prices to exceed $1,000 in several cities, with the exception of the capital. However, following today’s hike, Delhi has also reached the milestone. According to sources, the price of a domestic LPG cylinder in Delhi has risen to 1,003 from 809 in the last year.

In Delhi, a 19 kg LPG cylinder costs 2,354 rupees; in Kolkata, 2,454 rupees; in Mumbai, 2,306 rupees; and in Chennai, 2,507 rupees. The price of commercial LPG cylinders, which are used in places like hotels and restaurants, was raised earlier this month. A 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder’s price was raised by 102.50 to 2,355.50 on May 1. Commercial cylinder rates have reportedly increased by 750 percent in the last year.

The increase in LPG cylinder prices comes at a time when CPI-based retail inflation reached 7.8% in April, the highest level since the Narendra Modi-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) took power in May 2014. Increased geopolitical tensions, as well as an increase in transportation costs due to higher fuel prices, are all contributing to the increase.
