Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi takes over charge of strategic Northern Command
On Tuesday, Lt. Gen. Upendra Dwivedi assumed the command of the Army’s prestigious Northern Command.
Lieutenant Colonel Devend Anand, spokesman for the Ministry of Defence, said: “Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi was the Army Chief of Staff before being appointed as the Northern Command Army Commander. He was commissioned to join the Jammu and Kashmir Rifle Regiment. , serving in a wide range of terrain and operational profiles over a career of more than 37 years.”
He leased many important command, staff and teaching appointments and contributed greatly to the organization.
Lieutenant General Dwivedi is an alumnus of Sainik School, Rewa, National Defence Academy and Indian Military Academy.
The general commands his battalion, the Inspector General for Assam Rifles (IGAR, East), in the Kashmir Valley, the Assam Rifle district along the India-Myanmar border. Later, he commanded the Nova Corps in Yol.
He has served as a staff officer in armored brigades, the General Directorate of Military Operations, the Military Secretariat, and division and regiment headquarters.
The general has taught at the Indian Military Academy and the Army War College. He also served two overseas terms in Somalia and the Seychelles.
He has served in various positions in the General Directorate of Infantry, including Infantry Director General and fast-tracking weapons procurement cases, which have significantly increased the capabilities of the Army.
