No increase in human rights violations, says Centre, cites NHRC data

The government told Rajya Sabha on Wednesday that there has been no increase in human rights violations in the country.

“According to the data provided by the National Human Rights Commission, no increase in human rights violations has been noticed,” State Minister Nityanand Rai of the Ministry of the Interior said in a written response to a question from Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam MP M Shanmugam.

Shanmugam wants to know whether the number of human rights violations in the country is increasing year by year.

According to data shared by the government, as of October 31, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has registered 64,170 human rights violations this year. The data shows that the number of registered cases has declined in the past three years. The number of registered cases in 2018, 2019 and 2020 are 89,584,76,628 and 74,968 respectively. The largest proportion of cases registered by the National Human Rights Commission is from Uttar Pradesh. In 2018, 41,947 cases were registered, and 32,6193,4022 cases were registered in 2018. From 2021 to October 31, 24,242 cases were registered.

Since 2018, the NHRC has recommended a total of 63.67 crore in monetary relief to victims of rights.

Partha Sarathi Deb passed away on Friday, and his remains were taken to Technician’s Studio at 12 pm.

Bengali actor Partha Sarathi Deb, aged 68, passed away at a Kolkata hospital while undergoing treatment, according to his family.

Partha passed away at 11:50 pm on Friday night due to COPD-related ailments. He had been admitted to state-run M R Bangur hospital for the last month, and his condition worsened over the past week, and he was in the ICU.

Actor Jeet expressed sadness over the loss of colleague and WBAF committee member Partha Sarathi Deb on X, sharing a photo and offering condolences to his bereaved family and friends.

Actress Rupanjana Mitra announced the news on Facebook, writing a lengthy note in Bengali.

Partha, the vice president of the West Bengal Motion Picture Artists Forum, condoled the death of actor Amit Shah and announced that his body would be taken to Technician Studio, a familiar place for him.

The forum is deeply saddened by the actor’s passing and will keep his remains at Technician’s Studio on March 23, where his loved ones, teammates, and well-wishers can pay their last respects.
