PM Modi mark the death anniversary of iconic freedom fighters Bhagat Singh, Shivaram Rajguru and Sukhdev Thapar

India marks the death anniversary of freedom fighters Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Thapar. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the spirit of sacrificing their lives for the motherland will always inspire the countrymen.

He will honour Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru, who died fighting for India’s independence from British rule.

Arvind Kejriwal also paid tribute to Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru on the martyrdom day of the freedom fighters. “Every countryman will forever be indebted to the immortal sacrifice of these heroes,” he said in a message on Twitter.

Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru are remembered by the Congress party for their contribution to Indian freedom struggle. “Whenever there is a voice against injustice, there will be a reflection of these martyrs in that voice,” Rahul Gandhi writes.

March 23 will be observed as a state holiday in Punjab to commemorate Bhagat Singh. Chief minister Bhagwant Mann took oath last week and ended his speech with ‘Inquilab Zindabad’. The new chief minister took oath in Bhagat Singh’s ancestral village Khatkar Kalan, which lies on the border of India and Pakistan.

Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru plotted the assassination of the British officer James Scott in Lahore. In a case of mistaken identity, assistant superintendent of police John Saunders was shot dead. The three freedom fighters were hanged to death on March 23, 1931.
