Representatives from the Center will travel to nine nations to discuss wheat exports.

To discuss wheat exports, the Centre plans to send delegations to Morocco, Tunisia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Turkey, Algeria, and Lebanon.

India has set a target of a record 10 million tonnes (MT) of wheat exports in 2022-23, according to a statement released by the commerce and industry ministry on Thursday.

India exported a record seven MT of wheat worth $2.05 billion in 2021-22. Bangladesh received about half of the wheat produced. Egypt purchased 6.1 million tonnes of wheat from India.

Under the auspices of the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority, the Centre has formed a task force for wheat exports with representatives from various ministries (APEDA).

Farmers, traders, and exporters have been advised to adhere to quality standards in order for India to emerge as a reliable global wheat supplier, according to the ministry, as global demand for Indian wheat has increased.

Sensitization meetings on exports are being planned by the commerce department in major wheat-growing states such as Punjab, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan.

To promote quality wheat export, APEDA held separate interactive sessions with farmers, traders, and exporters in Haryana’s Karnal.
