Russia: Two Women Fall Off 6000 Feet Cliff Swing Over Sulak Canyon in Dagestan

The video of the incident shows the woman taking a ride on the swing and as they head towards the edge of the cliff, their seat suddenly is tipped over due to cable allegedly snapped, plunging them off the top of the cliff. Luckily for both of them, the girls miraculously escaped death as they landed on a narrow wooden platform under the edge of the cliff. They only suffered a few cuts and bruises, Daily Mail reported.

“The girls got scared and sustained scratches, but neither of them suffered serious injuries,” a source told the local newspaper Komsomolskaya Pravda. The video shows the two girls sitting on the swing and a man from behind can be seen pushing the swing. But to everyone’s utter disbelief suddenly the swing chain broke, and the swing seat flipped.

Police have launched an investigation and safety checks are being carried out on similar swings nearby, which have been built near Zubutli village, where the canyon is more than one mile deep. Notably, the Sulak gorge is deeper than the Grand Canyon in the United States and is described as the deepest canyon in Europe. The Ministry of Tourism in Dagestan said the swing ‘did not meet safety standards’. “Law enforcement agencies and other services are already conducting relevant checks to ensure that nothing threatens lives and health,” it said. According to reports, the local Kazbekovsky council is expected to demand such precipice swings be removed.
