Sonali Kulkarni opens up on facing colourism, says ‘I was told dark girls don’t look good on camera’

Actress Sonali Kulkarni, who has carved a veritable niche for herself in the entertainment industry over the years, recently opened up on colourism and how she has never let the ‘Dusky Beauty’ moniker affect her outlook.

In a recent interview with , the actress said that she has not faced colourism in Bollywood but experienced it in Pune. She stated that she has only received compliments and encouraging kind words in Bollywood and when she travelled abroad for her international films.

However, when Sonali appeared for her first audition in Pune, where she was meeting Girish Karnad for the first time, another girl had also come there with her mother.

Sonali said that the mother had asked her, ‘Why have you come here?’. To this Sonali replied that she was there to meet Girish Karnad Sir. The lady then told her, ‘But have you seen your face in the mirror? Dark girls don’t look good on camera.’ Recalling the incident, Sonali said that she felt so embarrassed that day that she felt like melting into the earth.

The actress further stated that within the next 15-20 minutes she met Girish Sir who made her feel equal and comfortable. After being in the industry for almost 30 years, Sonlai says that she has realised that success or failure is absolutely impermanent. She added that she prefers to be on level zero and loves to enjoy her life to the fullest.

The first day of Family Star’s box office collection features Vijay Deverakonda and Mrunal Thakur’s Telugu film, directed by Parasuram Petla.

The Telugu film Family Star, directed by Parasuram Petla, has collected an estimated ₹5.75 crore nett in India on its first day of box office collection, marking an impressive opening day for the film.

Family Star reported a 38.45% Telugu occupancy on day 1, with Warangal having the highest occupancy (57.5%), followed by Visakhapatnam and Kakinada (56.75% each).
