Spider-Man: No Way Home surpasses Jurassic World and The Lion King to become the 6th highest-grossing film of all time
The ‘Spider-Man: Nowhere’ juggernaut refuses to stop at the global box office. The film is now the sixth-highest-grossing film of all time, with $1.69 billion worldwide.
Over the weekend, Marvel and Sony films overtook Jurassic World ($1.67 billion) and The Lion King ($1.66 billion) to become the sixth highest-grossing movie of all time. Considering that all the movies in the top five grossed more than $2 billion, No Way Home looks unlikely to rise further.
But it was no easy feat for Jon Watts’ director to get this far. For one thing, the movie wasn’t released in China, which is usually one of the biggest overseas markets for all Hollywood movies. Then, unlike other films in the billion dollar club, No Way Home had to deal with Covid-19 pandemic restrictions in different parts of the world.
But even a resurgence of the virus — via the Omicron variant — couldn’t stop the film. In its sixth week in theaters, “Nowhere to Go” remains the No. 1 film at the U.S. box office after being briefly replaced by the horror flick “Scream.”
Films starring Tom Holland are also doing very well in India, despite the closure of theaters in several parts of the country due to the rise in Omicron cases. Its total revenue in India to date is Rs 2.12 billion (just over $28 million). In the era of the pandemic, only two other films have crossed the Rs 200 crore mark in India, Sooryavanshi and Pushpa: The Rise.

The Joker sequel has been transformed into a musical spectacle featuring Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix.
The upcoming sequel to Joker is set to be a musical spectacle, featuring a mix of 15 well-known songs reinterpreted for the Gotham world. The film also includes some original music. Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix will play Joker and Harley Quinn, adding their own charm to the film. More details are emerging about the soundtrack.
Todd Phillips’ upcoming Joker: Folie à Deux is expected to feature well-known tunes with around 15 reimaginings. An insider describes it as a jukebox musical, with This Is Entertainment, a 1953 show tune associated with Judy Garland, likely to be reimagined.
The report suggests that there may be original songs alongside re-imagined covers, but details remain a mystery. Warner Bros. declined to comment on the involvement of Hildur Gudnadottir, the Academy Award-winning composer of the first film, but a source suggests she may still infuse her signature notes into the musical performances.

The Joker 2 is a “drama set in and around the world of Arkham Asylum,” with the sequel likely following the storyline of the first film, which ended with Arthur escaping Arkham Asylum and killing a doctor, according to inside information.

Lady Gaga, Joaquin Phoenix, Zazie Beetz, Catherine Keener, and Brendan Gleeson are among the cast members, with the screenplay co-written by Phillips and Scott Silver.
Joker 2 budget and release date
Warner Bros. is set to release Joker 2 on October 4, with a budget of around $200 million, a significant increase from the original film’s $60 million. The film is expected to be Warner Bros’ next biggie after Dune 2, alongside other upcoming titles like Furiosa: a Mad Max Saga, Breathe in the Void, and The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rings.
