‘Union govt committed to…’: Mansukh Mandaviya as India begins administering precautionary dose
The central government is committed to provide ‘extra security cover’ to health care and frontline workers, said Union health minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya on Monday, as India began administering ‘precautionary dose’ of Covid-19 vaccines to health care and frontline staff, as well as citizens with comorbidities aged 60 and above.
“The plan for preventive dose management for health care and frontline personnel and citizens of 60 years and older age groups begins today. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the center is committed to giving priority to us Medical care and front-line staff provide additional security.
The drive to administer ‘precautionary’ or booster shots to the said people was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in an address to the nation on December 25 last year. Speaking in an unscheduled address, PM Modi also said that the exercise will kick off on January 10.
Last week, Dr VK Paul. Niti Aayog member (health) clarified that the extra or third dose will be of the same jab with which a beneficiary was inoculated the first two times.
Providing further convenience, the Union health ministry also said that those who intend to take their precautionary dose need not register separately for it. Instead, the ministry said, people can schedule their appointments through the CoWin app and, once scheduled, can simply go to the centre and get vaccinated for a third time.
The facility to schedule appointment for boosters opened last Saturday.

Partha Sarathi Deb passed away on Friday, and his remains were taken to Technician’s Studio at 12 pm.
Bengali actor Partha Sarathi Deb, aged 68, passed away at a Kolkata hospital while undergoing treatment, according to his family.
Partha passed away at 11:50 pm on Friday night due to COPD-related ailments. He had been admitted to state-run M R Bangur hospital for the last month, and his condition worsened over the past week, and he was in the ICU.
Jeet honours Rupanjana with a lengthy message
Actor Jeet expressed sadness over the loss of colleague and WBAF committee member Partha Sarathi Deb on X, sharing a photo and offering condolences to his bereaved family and friends.
Actress Rupanjana Mitra announced the news on Facebook, writing a lengthy note in Bengali.
Partha, the vice president of the West Bengal Motion Picture Artists Forum, condoled the death of actor Amit Shah and announced that his body would be taken to Technician Studio, a familiar place for him.
The forum is deeply saddened by the actor’s passing and will keep his remains at Technician’s Studio on March 23, where his loved ones, teammates, and well-wishers can pay their last respects.
