Uttar Pradesh polls: Time to change government, says BSP chief Mayawati
As polls for the first phase of Uttar Pradesh parliamentary elections begin, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati said on Thursday that it is time to decide whether people want a “sad” state or protect their interests in the next five years the state for many years.
BSP leaders also warmly welcomed all voters in the first phase of voting, which includes 58 parliamentary constituencies in 11 districts in western Uttar Pradesh.
“A warm welcome to everyone in the first stage of voting today in 58 parliamentary constituencies across 11 UP West districts. Now is the time to decide if the next five years of the UP will be as sad as ever. You will be able to save yourself,” Mayawa Tee wrote on Twitter.
She further referred to the BSP as a “movement for social change and economic liberation” whose goal was to liberate the poor, laborers, farmers, small businessmen and other communities from “helplessness and slavery.”
“The BSP is a movement for social change and economic liberation with the goal of turning the people into power partners, which the BJP, Congress and the Samajwadi Party (SP) cannot do. Our goal is to lift the poor from helplessness,” the BSP said. people said in a tweet.
Mayawati also slammed the BJP government at the centre and in the state, claiming that “they hide their faces like ostriches and commit crimes that increase poverty, unemployment, inflation, electricity and many other problems in Uttar Pradesh”.
She said the polls gave the people an opportunity to change the state’s government. “BSP is the better choice, and this time we have to be given a chance,” she added.
Voting for the first phase of Uttar Pradesh elections for 58 parliamentary seats covering 11 districts in the state began at 7am this morning. Voting will close at 6pm today.
The first phase will cover the “Jat Dominant Belt” in the western part of the state.
The districts going to the polls today are Mathura, Muzaffarnagar, Meerut, Ghaziabad, Bulandshahar, Hapur, Shamli, Baghpat, Aligarh, Agra, and Gautam Buddha Nagar.
As many as 623 candidates compete in the first stage of parliamentary voting, with nearly 227 million voters set to decide their fate.
The 403-member Uttar Pradesh Assembly is scheduled to vote in seven stages on February 10, 14, 20, 23, 27, March 3 and 7. Counting will take place on March 10.
