Board exams: CBSE stops physical evaluation of OMR answer sheets at centres

The Central Committee for Secondary Education (CBSE) said on Thursday that it has decided to stop the physical assessment of OMR answers at the test center on the day of the test for the ongoing 10th and 12th committee examinations.

It said that the decision will take effect from December 16. However, during the examination, the board did not explain any reasons for the sudden change in specifications.

From December 16th, the test center will suspend the assessment of the day. Within 15 minutes after the test, all center inspectors will pack and seal the OMR form in the presence of observers. The observer will sign the sealed package and mention the packaging time,” said examination director Sanyam Bhardwaj in a letter to the affiliated school.

Bhardwaj said: “Once the OMR is packaged and sealed, it will also be sent to the relevant regional office. After sending, the receipt will be uploaded as usual,” Bhardwaj said. The first semester board exam classes 10 and 12 are currently being conducted for students. This is an objective type of test. Students need to fill out an optical mark recognition (OMR) answer sheet.

So far, the OMR answer sheet is firstly evaluated by school teachers in the examination center for physical evaluation, and then sent for digital evaluation.

However, the board of directors is now requesting that the physical assessment of the remaining exams, which will last until December 30, be stopped on Thursday.

“The only responsibility of the director of the center is to ensure that the exam is conducted smoothly and fairly. If there is any deviation from the safety and security of the exam, CBSE will be responsible for taking action against the director and the school in accordance with its affiliation and the examination rules of the board of directors,” the letter said.
