Assembly elections 2022 live updates: AAP declares Bhagwant Mann as CM candidate for Punjab elections
Bhagwant Mann is the Punjab chief minister candidate of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Arvind Kejriwal announced today after an unusual televised vote in which people were asked to call to choose.
AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal told reporters that Bhagwant Mann received more than 93 percent of the votes by phone and WhatsApp.
Mr Kejriwal released a phone number last week and asked the people of Punjab to tell them who they would like to see as candidates for the AAP’s top job. At the same press conference, he had said the party was keen to hand the responsibility over to two-term MP Bhagwantman, but he himself floated the idea of asking the people for a choice.
Punjab provincial council elections will be held on February 20, the Election Commission said on Monday. The date has been changed from February 14 after political parties asked the Election Commission to consider the Guru Ravidas Jayanti celebration.
Meanwhile, leaders of the National Congress Party and Shiv Sena will meet in Goa today to discuss building a pre-vote alliance between the two parties in the coastal state in next month’s parliamentary elections, the body led by Sharad Pawar said on Monday.
Two Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) allies in Maharashtra are considering an alliance in Goa after Congress rejected a seat adjustment with them in a February 14 poll of the 40-member parliament.
