WhatsApp chat transfers from Android to iPhone coming soon
WhatsApp chat transfer is one of the many annoying things you have to worry about when upgrading your smartphone. This is not really a problem if you are using the same OS. When upgrading from one iPhone to another, you should have no problem backing up all your data. The same goes for Android. However, if you frequently jump from Android to iPhone or vice versa, things start to get more complicated. There are apps that can move most of your data from Android to iPhone or other ways. But WhatsApp chat transfer doesn’t work that way. Thankfully, WhatsApp has started to address this issue. After recently adding support for iPhone-to-Android chat transfer, the company may soon let users transfer all of their conversations from Android to iPhone.
WhatsApp introduced chat transfer from iPhone to Android last year. This feature was initially only available on Galaxy phones. Then, Google’s Pixel phones support WhatsApp chat transfers on iPhones.
Given Facebook’s hostile stance against Apple, it seems logical for Facebook to support the iPhone-to-Android upgrade. We didn’t know at the time when support for chat transfer from Android to iPhone would arrive. But it may arrive sooner than expected.
WABetaInfo released information last week about the new features of WhatsApp inside Android. According to the site, WhatsApp is testing a new version of the app that allows users to transfer chats from Android to iPhone. It’s unclear when the feature will roll out to all Android devices. There isn’t even a WhatsApp beta yet.
How to Transfer WhatsApp App Chats from iPhone to Android
However, the WhatsApp blog obtained images explaining how the feature works. To transfer your chat history from Android to iPhone, you must give your phone permission to import chat history.
Additionally, the screen above shows that WhatsApp will notify the user to keep the phone unlocked during the data transfer and bring the app to the foreground.
It’s unclear if Android users will have to use Apple’s Move to iOS in conjunction with the WhatsApp chat transfer tool. The WABetaInfo blog says a migration to iOS may be required.
Moving to iOS doesn’t transfer WhatsApp history like it does now. But it’s an app that lets you transfer a lot of personal data from Android to iPhone.
The inability to easily transfer WhatsApp chat history from one phone to another is a security feature. It ensures that no one else will transfer your WhatsApp account to another phone. Combined with end-to-end encryption, this helps protect your data.
Also, WhatsApp’s encryption may hinder the easy transfer of chats from Android to iPhone and vice versa. This is why you should consider only using the tools provided by WhatsApp to move chat history.
