Since Sharmin Segal is the niece of filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali, some people are accusing her of getting the job only via nepotism. Segal portrays Alamzeb in the Netflix series Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar. Sharmin’s performance has drawn harsh criticism on social media, prompting her to disable comments on an Instagram post that showed her with Bhansali at the most recent Heeramandi premiere in Los Angeles. This is in contrast to the positive reviews received by co-stars Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha, Sonakshi Sinha, Manisha Koirala, and Sanjeeda Sheikh.

Users have also commented negatively on Segal’s prior Instagram image from a magazine session, in which she appeared in her Alamzeb avatar. They have called her wooden and unfeeling. Some have questioned her casting, claiming that the part belonged to another actress who was better qualified.

“I really don’t like her as Alam. She doesn’t have the same expression, is that right?” One commenter referred to Sharmin as “the most inexpressive actress,” while another said as much.

2019 saw Sharmin make her acting debut in the Bhansali Productions film Malaal. Allegations of partiality sparked by Segal’s casting in Heeramandi have been exacerbated by recently discovered images of Segal with Janhvi Kapoor.

After someone shared many images of the 28-year-old actor’s older Instagram postings on Reddit, users began talking about how his looks had altered significantly. Sharmin seems unrecognisable in the leaked photos.
