CES 2022 to Now End a Day Earlier Than Planned as Omicron Cases Surge

Organizers of the Global Technology and Gadgets Show said that CES will now end one day earlier than planned, after companies such as Amazon and General Motors withdrew from participating in Las Vegas events in person because of Omicron’s concerns.

The organizer of the event, the Consumer Technology Association (CTA), said on Friday: “This step is an additional safety measure to the current health agreement for CES,” and announced that the event will end on January 7.

The spread of the highly contagious variant of Omicron has led to a dramatic increase in the number of people infected with COVID-19 worldwide, causing many people to reconsider their travel plans and leading to the cancellation of thousands of flights. The number of new COVID-19 cases in the United States has doubled. According to Reuters statistics, it reached a record high of an average of 329,000 people per day in eight days.

Due to concerns about new looms, many companies have already withdrawn from exhibiting in person at a virtual and personally planned event with more than 2,200 exhibitors starting on January 5th.

In the past few days, many companies, including Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), Procter & Gamble, Alphabet’s Google, and Facebook’s parent company Meta Platforms, have also abandoned their face-to-face plans. Sony Electronics of the Sony Group said it will restrict staffing and attendance at events.

All attendees in Las Vegas will be required to be fully vaccinated and wear masks. According to the CTA’s statement, a COVID-19 test kit will also be provided at the venue.

Surfaces of the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra with Snapdragon 8S Gen 3

Early this week, renders of the Edge 50 Fusion appeared, and Motorola has previously stated that the Edge 50 Pro will ship on April 3. The highest-end smartphone in the Edge 50 series, the Edge 50 Ultra, has now been shown in renders.

The phone is depicted in the renderings in peach fuzz and black with a vegan leather finish, while sisal, a beige color, will have a brushed surface. As opposed to the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 in the Pro variant and the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 in the Edge 50 Fusion, the phone is reportedly powered by the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 SoC.

A 50MP primary camera, an ultra-wide camera, and a periscope telephoto camera with a 5x optical zoom are all included in the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra’s feature set. Additionally, there is a triple LED flash on the right side and a laser autofocus feature above the periscope lens.

Although the phone’s display, battery, and charging specifications are yet unknown, the Edge 50 Pro is said to include 12GB of RAM and support both 50W and 125W wired and wireless charging.

It is anticipated that this will launch as the Motorola X50 Ultra in China. It is unclear if the India launch may be expected on the same day as the rest of the Edge 50 series phones, even if this is scheduled to go official on April 3.
