Depression likely to dump heavy rain in coastal Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh

Due to the low air pressure in the Bay of Bengal, it is expected that there will be heavy to extremely heavy rains in some coastal and inland areas of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka on Thursday and Friday.

On Thursday morning, the depression was concentrated about 170 kilometers southeast of Chennai. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), it may cross the coastal areas of northern Tamil Nadu and southern Andhra Pradesh, including Chennai, on Thursday night. In a two-day period, these areas will experience wind speeds of up to 60 kilometers per hour.

According to the IMD announcement, the low-pressure system usually makes the situation in the Bay of Bengal rough. It is recommended that fishermen do not venture in the waters near the coasts of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh on November 11. IMD also stated that heavy rain from low air pressure may reduce visibility and cause waterlogging and traffic congestion, and fragile structures may be destroyed.

Heavy rain was recorded at weather stations across Chennai. Until Thursday morning, Ennore port reported 12 cm of rainfall, Nugambakkam received 11.4 cm, MRC Nagar received 11.5 cm, and Taramani received 10.3 cm. The Tamil Nadu region received more rain on Wednesday. Nagapattinam reported more than 23 cm of rainfall and Thiruvarur received 20 cm of rainfall. In addition, IMD predicts that the minimum temperature in northwestern India and Madhya Pradesh will begin to drop by 2-3 degrees Celsius in 48 hours, while the temperature in Gujarat will rise by 2-3 degrees Celsius in the next three days.
