Kia to increase production at its Andhra plant, to shorten waiting period

South Korean automaker Kia has announced that it will start the third shift of production at its Anantapur plant today. Faced with growing demand for Kia vehicles in the country, the company decided to increase its production to a full production capacity of 3,000 vehicles per year. Kia currently has four vehicles in India. It recently launched a three-row recreational vehicle, the Kia Carens, which has received more than 19,000 reservations. There are also Seltos, Sonet and Carnival.

The Andhra Pradesh plant will also recruit new staff to expand production capacity in adjacent areas. The extra shifts will be able to reduce the waiting time for Kia cars in India.

Kia India recently delivered over 5,000 units from the Anantapur plant, including 4,000 for domestic sales and 1,000 for export. Since deliveries of the Seltos began in September 2019, the company has exported vehicles to more than 91 countries in the Middle East, Africa, Central and South America, Mexico and Asia Pacific, and will become the country’s number one UV exporter in 2021.

Tae-Jin Park, Managing Director and CEO of Kia India, said: “We are very pleased to announce the start of the third shift at our Anantapur plant. We have hired additional manpower and resources to minimise the waiting time for Kia vehicles , and help us meet the high demand in domestic and international markets. India is a strategic market for Kia in the world, and all our products have received a warm response here. As a professional car manufacturer, it is our responsibility to ensure faster delivery to our customers, and the start of the third shift will ensure that.
