Microsoft to let Sony PS fans play CoD for years: Brad Smith

Microsoft President and Vice Chairman Brad Smith reiterated that the tech giant will continue to offer Call of Duty (CoD) and other popular Activision Blizzard games on Sony PlayStation under the terms of any existing agreement with Activision Blizzard.

Smith said Microsoft has committed to Sony that “we will also offer these games on PlayStation in addition to existing agreements and in the future so that Sony fans can continue to enjoy the games they love”.

“We are also interested in taking similar steps to support Nintendo’s successful platform. We believe this is right for the industry, gamers and our business,” he said in a blog post late Wednesday.

The company had earlier said it would allow the popular CoD to stay on Sony PlayStation after the US tech giant bought CoD maker Activision Blizzard for $69 billion.

The obvious concern is that Microsoft could offer CoD exclusively on the Xbox console, ruining the chances for Sony PlayStation owners.

Smith said regulators may have other important issues as they review the Activision Blizzard acquisition.

“We are committed to addressing every potential problem,” he added.

Microsoft reported strong results for the quarter ended December 31, with revenue of $51.7 billion (up 20%) and net income of $18.8 billion (up 21%).

Xbox hardware revenue rose 4%, while Xbox content and services revenue rose 10%.

“This quarter we saw record engagement and revenue. Game Pass has more than 25 million users on PC and consoles,” said Satya Nadella, chairman and CEO of Microsoft.

“Through our acquisition of Activision Blizzard, we’re investing in making it easier for people to play great games anytime, anywhere, the way they want, and shape the future of gaming as platforms like Metaverse grow,” he added.

Surfaces of the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra with Snapdragon 8S Gen 3

Early this week, renders of the Edge 50 Fusion appeared, and Motorola has previously stated that the Edge 50 Pro will ship on April 3. The highest-end smartphone in the Edge 50 series, the Edge 50 Ultra, has now been shown in renders.

The phone is depicted in the renderings in peach fuzz and black with a vegan leather finish, while sisal, a beige color, will have a brushed surface. As opposed to the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 in the Pro variant and the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 in the Edge 50 Fusion, the phone is reportedly powered by the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 SoC.

A 50MP primary camera, an ultra-wide camera, and a periscope telephoto camera with a 5x optical zoom are all included in the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra’s feature set. Additionally, there is a triple LED flash on the right side and a laser autofocus feature above the periscope lens.

Although the phone’s display, battery, and charging specifications are yet unknown, the Edge 50 Pro is said to include 12GB of RAM and support both 50W and 125W wired and wireless charging.

It is anticipated that this will launch as the Motorola X50 Ultra in China. It is unclear if the India launch may be expected on the same day as the rest of the Edge 50 series phones, even if this is scheduled to go official on April 3.
