Over 1 lakh kids orphaned or lost a parent since April 2020: NCPCR to SC
More than 100,000 children lost one or both of their parents during the first and second waves of the COVID-19 pandemic across the country. The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) gave this information to the Supreme Court on Wednesday.
The commission, which is running a dedicated website called Bal Swaraj to collect data on orphans and children who have lost one of their parents, submitted an affidavit in the apex court through advocate Swarupma Chaturvedi that 101,032 children Abandoned, orphaned, or lost one of their parents between April 1, 2020, and August 23, 2021, due to COVID-19 or other reasons.
Of this, the commission said, 8,161 were orphans, 396 children were abandoned and 92,475 had lost one of their parents.

The actor has been a regular at recent RCB games. She gave birth to her second child, a son named Akaay, in February. She became Virat’s cheerleader during RCB’s victory over Delhi Capitals (DC) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
When DC’s last wicket was taken, Anushka Sharma’s joyous reaction was caught on camera. Anushka Sharma raised her hands in relief as well as leaping from her seat in the stands.
Anushka’s next film appearance will be as cricket player Jhulan Goswami in Chakda Xpress. Prosit Roy is the director of the sports film, which is produced by Karnesh Sharma, Anushka’s brother.
