On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed gratitude to President Emmanuel Macron of France and the French government for their “warm hospitality.” PM Modi said his trip to France was “brief but very fruitful,” and that the two leaders discussed a variety of topics, including “bilateral as well as global issues.” PM Modi went on to say that “India and France are proud developmental partners,” and that their cooperation is “spread across various sectors.”

“My trip to France was brief but extremely productive. I had the opportunity to speak with President @EmmanuelMacron about a variety of topics. PM Modi wrote on Twitter in both English and French, along with photos from their meeting, “I thank him and the French Government for the warm hospitality.”

“Delighted, as always, to meet my friend President @EmmanuelMacron,” he wrote in another tweet. We talked for a long time about bilateral and global issues. India and France are proud development partners, with our collaboration spanning multiple sectors.”

During the final leg of his three-day trip to Europe, PM Modi met with French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris. He had lengthy discussions with Macron, who was re-elected to the presidency just over a week ago.

The two leaders discussed a number of bilateral and mutual issues, as well as regional and global events. In response to Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, India and France have issued a joint statement.

While condemning civilian deaths in the war-torn country and calling for an immediate halt to hostilities, India and France stated their commitment to enabling a coordinated, multilateral response to address the risk of a worsening food crisis as a result of the conflict in Ukraine.

“India and France express grave concern about the current deterioration of global food security and nutrition, which has already been impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic, particularly in developing countries,” read the joint statement.
