Punjab polls: BJP, Captain’s party and Dhindsa’s SAD will have common manifesto
The BJP will lead a three-party coalition with the former CM Amarinder Singh’s Punjab People’s Assembly and Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa at SAD (Sanyukt) in Punjab, where multi-corner elections are expected.
On Monday, Singh and Dhindsa met with BJP Chairman J P Nadda, Federal Interior Minister Amit Shah and Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat at their residence in the capital Shah, the latter responsible for the party’s election in Punjab.
Shekhawat later addressed the media and said: “Today, it was officially announced that the BJP, Amarind Singh’s party and Sukhdev Dindessa’s party will jointly participate in the upcoming parliamentary poll in Punjab.”
Shekhawat said that a joint committee will be formed, consisting of two leaders from each side, to finalize the seat-sharing arrangement.
“There will be a committee composed of the leaders of the three parties and they will sit down and discuss the seat sharing (formula). They will submit a draft to the BJP central leadership on the seat sharing plan,” he told the Indian Express .
It is understood that the alliance will also have a common declaration.
When asked whether the coalition will have a candidate for chief minister, Shehavat said that such a decision will be made later.
Shekhawat said that given the political climate in Punjab, the party is optimistic.
“The only light of hope for the people of Punjab is the BJP, because there is a huge infighting within the parliament, and the country is paying the price for it-the recent explosion in Ludhiana (court building) is an example. People have not forgotten Akali. The era of drugs and mafia under Dal,” he said.
The BJP leader also rejected the rise of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the state. According to the results announced on Monday, the party won most of the seats in the Chandigarh citizen election.
Shekhawat said: “Only BJP can save this country. It is burdened with huge debts — about 400 million rupees — and is one of the countries with the slowest GDP growth, ranking 32nd,” Shekhawat said, adding: “The situation Very critical…it can be saved. People only realize this with the help of the center.”
The former CM Amarinder Singh also expressed confidence that the three parties will form the next government in Punjab after obtaining an absolute majority.
“I am very happy that we have come together for the national security, welfare and progress of Punjab,” Amarinde said in a statement after meeting with Shah, Nada and others.
