Samsung Exynos 2200 SoC With Xclipse GPU Based on AMD RDNA 2 Architecture Launched, Expected to Power Galaxy S22 Series

The Samsung Exynos 2200 system-on-chip (SoC) was unveiled on Tuesday as the South Korean company’s answer to Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC. The SoC includes a Samsung Xclipse GPU based on AMD’s RDNA 2 architecture, and an upgraded Neural Processing Unit (NPU), said to enable the “ultimate mobile gaming experience”, as well as enhanced social media applications and photography experiences. Samsung says the Exynos 2200, which is currently in mass production, will offer PC/console-like gaming on smartphones. It is expected to power the Galaxy S22 series of smartphones in some regions.

According to a Samsung announcement, the Exynos 2200 is built on a 4 nanometer (nm) EUV (extreme ultraviolet lithography) process. The octa-core CPU will feature a triple-cluster structure with one Cortex-X2 flagship core, three Cortex-A710 large cores for performance and efficiency, and four Cortex-A510 cores for power efficiency. With the Xclipse GPU, the SoC “will redefine the mobile gaming experience, complemented by enhanced graphics and AI performance,” said Yongin Park, president of Samsung Electronics’ system LSI business.

The AMD RDNA 2 architecture on the Xlcipse GPU in the Samsung Exynos 2200 SoC will enable features such as hardware-accelerated ray tracing (RT) and variable rate shading (VRS) for PC/console-level gaming experiences in smartphones. “In addition, Xclipse GPUs are equipped with various technologies, such as Advanced Multi-IP Governor (AMIGO), to improve overall performance and efficiency,” Samsung said. The company claims that the Samsung Exynos 2200 is one of the few SoCs on the market with Armv9 CPU cores for improved security and performance.

Surfaces of the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra with Snapdragon 8S Gen 3

Early this week, renders of the Edge 50 Fusion appeared, and Motorola has previously stated that the Edge 50 Pro will ship on April 3. The highest-end smartphone in the Edge 50 series, the Edge 50 Ultra, has now been shown in renders.

The phone is depicted in the renderings in peach fuzz and black with a vegan leather finish, while sisal, a beige color, will have a brushed surface. As opposed to the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 in the Pro variant and the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 in the Edge 50 Fusion, the phone is reportedly powered by the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 SoC.

A 50MP primary camera, an ultra-wide camera, and a periscope telephoto camera with a 5x optical zoom are all included in the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra’s feature set. Additionally, there is a triple LED flash on the right side and a laser autofocus feature above the periscope lens.

Although the phone’s display, battery, and charging specifications are yet unknown, the Edge 50 Pro is said to include 12GB of RAM and support both 50W and 125W wired and wireless charging.

It is anticipated that this will launch as the Motorola X50 Ultra in China. It is unclear if the India launch may be expected on the same day as the rest of the Edge 50 series phones, even if this is scheduled to go official on April 3.
