Temples not an election issue for BJP, says UP deputy CM Maurya over Mathura row
Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya said on Thursday that temples and corridors are not an election issue for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Maurya reiterated his controversial statement in a tweet in which he talked about a magnificent temple in Mathura, and he said that although a magnificent Ram temple is being built in Ayodhya and Kashi in Varanasi The Vishwanath corridor project is in progress, but is awaiting the construction of a Krishna Janmabhoomi temple in Mathura. Mathura is believed to be the birthplace of Lord Krishna. The hypothetical temple site is the subject of multiple lawsuits, located in the Aurangzeb-era mosque in Mathura, sharing its premises with a famous temple.
In view of the upcoming parliamentary elections in the state, despite the temple town’s injunction, Maurya’s repeated statements on this issue are likely to be the case.
On November 28, the administrative authority of Mathura region issued a prohibition order under CrPC Article 144. Earlier, the Hindu Mahasa announced the installation of a statue of Krishna in the “actual birthplace” of the god and claimed that the god was located in the mosque .
“No one must disturb the peace and tranquility of Mathura,” Magistrate Navneet Singh Chahal said at the time.
