TikTok surpasses 1 billion monthly active users; US, Europe biggest market

TikTok, a short video production platform, has exceeded 1 billion global monthly active users. The video sharing platform owned by ByteDance said that as of January 2018, it had approximately 55 million users worldwide. By December 2018, this number had increased to more than 271 million, and by December 2019 it had increased to 507 million. “I say thank you on behalf of the TikTok team,” said Vanessa Pappas, TikTok’s COO. “No matter where you are in the world, we would never do this without you.” In contrast, social media giant Facebook had 3.51 billion monthly users in its app series in the second quarter, up from 3.45 billion in the first quarter. At the same time, YouTube has more than 2 billion monthly active users. Eight years after the company was launched in 2005, it broke the 1 billion mark in 2013. TikTok said its biggest markets are in the United States, Europe, Brazil and Southeast Asia, even though its parent company ByteDance is headquartered in China. In the latest development, TikTok is adding new warnings to its in-app search to alert users when the results may contain “disturbing content.” Since last year, the app has adopted “sensitive content” warnings for individual videos, but updated alerts will appear in search results, searching for terms that may contain such content. In a blog post, TikTok uses “horror makeup” as an example as a search term, which may prompt such warnings. Last year, the Indian government stated that it would ban 59 applications developed by Chinese companies, including the Bytedance TikTok, because of concerns that these applications engage in activities that threaten national security.

Surfaces of the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra with Snapdragon 8S Gen 3

Early this week, renders of the Edge 50 Fusion appeared, and Motorola has previously stated that the Edge 50 Pro will ship on April 3. The highest-end smartphone in the Edge 50 series, the Edge 50 Ultra, has now been shown in renders.

The phone is depicted in the renderings in peach fuzz and black with a vegan leather finish, while sisal, a beige color, will have a brushed surface. As opposed to the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 in the Pro variant and the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 in the Edge 50 Fusion, the phone is reportedly powered by the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 SoC.

A 50MP primary camera, an ultra-wide camera, and a periscope telephoto camera with a 5x optical zoom are all included in the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra’s feature set. Additionally, there is a triple LED flash on the right side and a laser autofocus feature above the periscope lens.

Although the phone’s display, battery, and charging specifications are yet unknown, the Edge 50 Pro is said to include 12GB of RAM and support both 50W and 125W wired and wireless charging.

It is anticipated that this will launch as the Motorola X50 Ultra in China. It is unclear if the India launch may be expected on the same day as the rest of the Edge 50 series phones, even if this is scheduled to go official on April 3.
