Traffic hit, flights suspended as Chennai battles rain fury; 14 dead so far in TN

The flooding in Tamil Nadu was triggered by strong showers and dam overflows and has caused 14 deaths. As parts of Chennai remained underwater until late Thursday night, more than 75,000 police and other government authorities were preparing to fight to help citizens. The excess water from the dam turned the suburbs into a virtual large body of water, and the streets were flooded with floods and garbage.

The low air pressure moving toward the metropolis on Thursday will cross the coast here, and the authorities will use heavy motors, robotic excavators, and deploy all manpower to pump water, dredge sewers, remove garbage and uprooted trees. The heavy rain since last night covered almost the entire city, including downtown Myrabo, and severely flooded several blocks including Velachery. The rain entered the national hospitals of KK Nagar and Chromepet, prompting the authorities to transfer patients to other places.

Local facilities. Fearing damage, several residents of Ram Nagar, which was hit by flooding in Madipakkam, parked their cars on the edge of the nearby Velachery overpass or under similar facilities nearby. Pudupet’s trails near the swelling Cooum River, Choolai, Semmancherry, Kodambambakkam, KK Nagar-MGR Nagar and Arumbakkam are among the countless communities hit by flooding.

Flights to Chennai Airport will be suspended until 6 pm on Thursday, November 11, due to heavy rain and crosswinds, Chennai Airport authorities said. “Due to heavy rain and crosswinds, the arrival time of #AAI Chennai Airport will continue to be suspended from 13:15 to 18:00 today. Departure will continue. Taking into account the safety of passengers and the severity of the wind, this has been made Decided,” Chennai Airport wrote on Twitter.

Cold day conditions to abate in Delhi from today

Delhi cold weather is likely to ease from Thursday, with the city’s minimum temperature expected to rise by more than two degrees despite air quality in the “very poor” category.

The Air Quality Index (AQI) in Delhi was 363 at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday. The AQI was 322 at 4pm on Wednesday.

Maximum temperatures and wind speeds are likely to gradually increase, which will enhance ventilation of pollutants and lead to improved air quality. The wind speed will pick up further from January 21.

AQIs between 0 and 50 are considered “good”, 51 and 100 are considered “satisfactory”, 101 and 200 “moderate”, 201 and 300 “poor”, 301 and 400 “very poor”, and 401 and 500 “severe”.
