Validity of TET Pass Certificate Extended From 7 Years to Lifetime: Center

The government has decided to extend the validity period of the Certificate of Eligibility for Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) from seven years to a lifetime.

This decision will be effective from 2011. Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank made this announcement on Thursday.

Nishank said that in respect of the candidates or students whose certificate has completed the period of seven years, the concerned state government or union territory administration will take necessary steps to reschedule the validity period of TET or issue a new TET certificate.

According to the statement of the Ministry of Education, Nishank said that it has been decided to increase the validity period of the TET certificate of eligibility to lifelong from the present seven years.

He said that this step will increase employment opportunities for the candidates who want to make their career in the field of education.

The eligibility certificate of the Teacher Eligibility Test is an essential qualification in relation to the eligibility of a person for appointment as a teacher in schools.

The National Council of Teacher Education (NCTE) guidelines dated 11 February 2011 states that the state government will conduct TET and the period of validity of the TET eligibility certificate will be seven years from the date of passing the examination.
