Vehicles wade through waterlogged streets as heavy rain lashes Delhi, Gurugram

Traffic snarls and severe waterlogging were witnessed in parts of Delhi and Gurugram after heavy rainfall lashed the cities for the second consecutive day on Wednesday.
Delhi recorded the highest single-day rainfall in September in at least 12 years, with weather stations in the city recording 112.1 mm rainfall in 24 hours ending at 8:30 am on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Gurugram received 64.2 mm of rain in the last 24 hours.

While the parked vehicles hit each other and appeared as if they floated in the water, a car moved past the street without even touching them.

Cold day conditions to abate in Delhi from today

Delhi cold weather is likely to ease from Thursday, with the city’s minimum temperature expected to rise by more than two degrees despite air quality in the “very poor” category.

The Air Quality Index (AQI) in Delhi was 363 at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday. The AQI was 322 at 4pm on Wednesday.

Maximum temperatures and wind speeds are likely to gradually increase, which will enhance ventilation of pollutants and lead to improved air quality. The wind speed will pick up further from January 21.

AQIs between 0 and 50 are considered “good”, 51 and 100 are considered “satisfactory”, 101 and 200 “moderate”, 201 and 300 “poor”, 301 and 400 “very poor”, and 401 and 500 “severe”.

Delhi has been facing cold weather conditions for about a week, as dense upper fog makes it difficult for sunlight to penetrate to the surface. The mist persisted in the early hours of the morning. It is expected to clear in the second half of the day.
