WhatsApp users may soon be able to transfer chats from Android phones to iPhones

Yuan-owned WhatsApp reportedly plans to allow its users to migrate their chat history from Android devices to iPhones soon. Currently, iOS has offered the chat transfer feature to Samsung devices and Google Pixel since last October. Now, the company is planning to expand this feature to more Android phones.

According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is working on an “Import Chat History” feature that will allow Android users to transfer their chat history to an iPhone device.

The feature was spotted in the latest WhatsApp beta development for iOS v22.2.74. The report also has a screenshot showing the app asking users to allow them to import chat history.

Beta testers have yet to experience it, as WABetaInfo has not found a reference to the feature until now. Currently, it’s not currently available to everyone.

WhatsApp released a beta version of the feature last September, allowing users to transfer their chats from older Android devices to iOS. The feature requires users to connect their Android phone with the new iPhone using a Lightning USB type-C cable to move their chat history. The migration process may also require users to install Apple’s Move app on their Android phones.

The feature rolled out to select Samsung smartphones last August, while Google Pixel devices rolled out the same feature later in October. Note that this feature is basically available on devices running on Android 12 out of the box.

Meanwhile, WhatsApp is also reportedly rolling out a new global voice note player on iOS beta, which allows users to listen to voice messages even when they switch to a different chat. With this new voice note player, users can listen to voice notes without closing it while swiping back or opening a different chat. This feature has been released to some iOS beta testers, including the WhatsApp Business beta.
