On Monday, six residents of the Pediatrics Department of Safdarjung Hospital in New Delhi tested positive for Covid-19. Last week, 23 junior doctors at the hospital tested positive for the virus.

A doctor in the hospital said: “These are not Omicron cases. The symptoms are mostly mild and do not need to be hospitalized under any circumstances. They are all in self-isolation.”

Delhi reported a surge in Covid-19 infections, with the number of cases rising to 4,099 on Monday.

Health Minister Satyendar Jain stated that 152 people have tested positive for the Omicron variant in the past few days. “Omicron is now the main variant in Delhi; approximately 81% of Delhi’s cases are variants. People arriving at Delhi airport from abroad are being tested and if they test positive, they will be sent to an isolation facility and treated accordingly,” Jain Say.

He said that the government has made adequate arrangements to deal with the surge. “There is no need to panic. The best way to stop the coronavirus is to always wear a mask and always follow all Covid appropriate protocols.”

Jain said the hospital occupancy rate in Delhi is very low. “Almost 96% of Covid hospital beds in Delhi are available and only 4% are occupied. In addition, we are preparing more than 37,000 additional beds in Delhi,” the Delhi government said in a statement on Monday.
