Priyadarshan calls it ‘the last era of superstars’: Shah Rukh to Salman to Akshay, they should be thankful to God

With films gaining ground in reality, director Priyadarshan believes that gradually the importance of superstars will diminish and the art of storytelling will take its place.

One of the finest directors in the film industry, Priyadarshan has worked with some of Bollywood’s most celebrated actors including Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, and Akshay Kumar.

Priyadarshan is known for films like ‘Hera Pheri’, ‘Garam Masala’ and ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa’. He has made films in many languages ranging from drama to comedy in his career of almost 40 years. He said that today’s audience rejects those films which do not have reality.

Elaborating on his point, he said, “The industry has changed. I think this is the last era of superstars.” “Whoever is enjoying today, Shah Rukh (Khan) to Salman (Khan) to Akshay (Kumar)…they should be thankful to God,” he added. “Tomorrow, the superstar will be the content.”

Zakir Khan’s comedy-shayari programme will take Kapil Sharma’s place on TV.

After The Kapil Sharma Show aired on television for the last year, the comedian moved to streaming services in 2024 with The Great Indian Kapil Show. Actor Huma Qureshi was a permanent visitor on the TV show Madness Machayenge-India Ko Hassayenge, which briefly filled the hole created by the departure of the former show. But it didn’t quite click with the public, and according to recent rumours, the channel has added comedian Zakir Khan to help fill the void with a new programme.

Comedy and shayari will be mixed together in Zakir Khan’s presentation.

We now know some exclusive information about the show, such as its schedule and format. According to a source with direct knowledge of the situation, “Zakir’s show will feature a trademark Zakir blend of humour and shayari. With this programme, the comedian hopes to reach a larger audience. He has already developed a following of people who identify with his shayarana side. Madness Machayenge is now airing and is most likely coming to an end. Zakir’s television programme is scheduled to premiere in August. Bollywood visitors will appear on the broadcast in addition to Zakir’s shayari and comedy, much like it used to happen on Kapil’s show.” This is Khan’s second television appearance following his work on the fifth season of The As a mentor in the Great Indian Laughter Challenge in 2017. In addition, he hosted the comedic non-fiction programme Farzi Mushaira on OTT, combining humour and shayari with well-known guests.

Recently, filming for Kapil’s OTT show came to an end, and there were rumours that this was because of the show’s poor viewership. The cast of Heeramandi, American singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran, and actors Rajkummar Rao and Janhvi Kapoor, among others, were disclosed in a video that the crew published to refute the rumours. Regarding Madness Machayenge, the television programme that took Kapil’s position, director Karan Johar blasted it for his repulsive impersonation on the show. The full guest list for Zakir’s programme has not yet been announced.
