Jayeshbhai Jordaar, starring Ranveer Singh, is facing legal issues ahead of its May 13 theatrical release. According to a new report, an NGO called Youth Against Crime has petitioned the Delhi High Court to have a scene from the film removed.

Ranveer Singh plays the lead in Jayeshbhai Jordaar, which also stars Shalini Pathak. Boman Irani and Ratna Pathak Shah also play important roles in the film.

“Though the film (Jayeshbhai Jordaar) is based on female foeticide and strives to promote the cause of Save Girl Child, its trailer advertises the use of ultrasound technique for sex selection, which is squarely restricted under the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act, 1994,” according to a Livelaw report.

The plea was also heard before a bench consisting of acting Chief Justice Vipin Sanghi and Justice Navin Chawla, according to the report. According to the report, the plea was filed by lawyer Pawan Prakash Pathak.

The court was asked to order the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to censor or remove the ultrasound clinic scene from the film. “Section 3A prohibits sex-selection, and Section 3B prohibits the sale of ultrasound machines, etc., to persons, laboratories, clinics, and other entities not registered under the Act,” according to the report. Advertisements relating to prenatal sex determination and punishment for noncompliance are specifically prohibited under Section 22. As a result, it is prayed that the Respondent, the Central Board of Film Certification, be ordered to censor or remove the Ultrasound clinic from the film.

Jayeshbhai Jordaar, directed by Divyang Thakkar and produced by Aditya Chopra and Maneesh Sharma for Yash Raj Films, stars Ranveer Singh as the son of a traditional Gujarati sarpanch.

Ranveer had said at the trailer launch of his new film, “Talking about the issue that my new film focuses on, “It was something we were taught in school. It’s a tragic and unfortunate reality that these things happen, and that these are still prevalent social ills that Divyang has attempted to bring to light and tell people in his own unique way.”
