According to a Freedom House report, internet freedom around the world has decreased for the 12th consecutive year.

Although some smaller nations are making progress, a crackdown in Russia is to blame for a global deterioration in internet freedom, according to a research released by Freedom House on Tuesday.

In an effort to suppress additional accounts of its “special military operation” in Ukraine, the Kremlin blocked popular social media sites and websites, causing Russia’s rating to fall seven points to an all-time low.

China received the lowest rating for internet freedom once more. The Covid pandemic reaction and the Beijing Winter Olympics were heavily censored, and tennis player Peng Shuai was detained after she claimed on social media that former vice premier Zhang Gaoli had attacked her.

However, the report also found that a record 26 countries have advanced, with major improvements in The Gambia, which is ending a 20-year dictatorship, and the much criticised Zimbabwe, which has advanced with a new data protection law.

The report’s co-author, Allie Funk, stated that civil society has started to see the results of advocacy efforts all across the world.

According to Funk, research director for technology and democracy at Freedom House, “over the past three to five years, you’ve seen a massive emphasis on human rights online, from democratic governments putting a lot of money into internet freedom programming and tech companies — some of them — starting to pay attention to these issues.”

Internet freedom was “undermined by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, not only in Russia and Ukraine but globally,” she claimed, but overall, things are “really a lot more good than we’ve experienced before.”

On a scale of 100 points, Freedom House rates countries based on factors such restrictions on internet access, content restrictions, and user rights abuses.

According to the paper, “swing states”—vast countries with conflicting histories like Brazil, India, and Nigeria—will likely decide the future of the internet.

The research stated that “development in these nations may secure the continuation of a free and open internet, or they could join authoritarian states in pushing the more restrictive concept of cyber sovereignty.”

The study discovered safeguards on the internet, such banning  of sites or arrests of internet users, between June 2021 and May in all the 70 countries it studied except four — Canada, Costa Rica, Iceland and Japan.

Recalling how Amrita Singh prevented Saif Ali Khan from endorsing his movie Pehla Nasha, Deepak Tijori “I was shocked by it.”

Recently, Deepak Tijori revealed some startling trivia about his 1990 film Pehla Nasha. He remembered when Saif was urged not to promote the film by Amrita Singh.

Tipppsy, the next film directed by Deepak Tijori, marks his return to directing. The actor-director is never afraid to speak openly about his colleagues. In a recent Zoom TV interview, Deepak remembered that Amrita Singh had previously advised Saif Ali Khan not to back Deepak’s movie Pehla Nasha.

In addition to starring in several films in the 1990s with Shah Rukh Khan, Rahul Roy, and Aamir Khan, Deepak also portrayed the lead in Pehla Nasha. The actor revealed that there was a scene in the Ashuotsh Gowariker-directed movie when Saif, Rahul Roy, Aamir Khan, and Shah Rukh Khan made cameo appearances.

According to Deepak Tijori, Amrita Singh prevented Saif Ali Khan from endorsing his movie.

When asked if Bollywood performers were friendly at parties but did not promote one other’s films, he responded, “Yeah, I guess I could probably tell you a personal experience.” I am referring about 1993 here. We were working on a movie named Pehla Nasha back in 1993. Surprisingly, there was a moment in the movie when everyone wants celebrities to attend a character’s debut. We had buddies, and the director was Ashutosh Gowariker. Therefore, I was taken aback when this particular occurrence occurred.”

According to Deepak, Amrita advised Saif not to back him.

He went on, “It seems that Shah Rukh Khan, Saif Ali Khan, and Aamir Khan were on their way.” Thus, Saif was reading, and this was similar to his interpretation of it when he got ready at home. Amrita Singh, his former spouse, questioned him, “What are you doing?” To what destination are you heading? “I’m heading to a premiere,” he declared. I’m heading out to shoot. I’m going to be involved with Deepak’s debut. “Really?” was her question. In what way is this possible? You know, we never did all these things. Who takes this action? similar to when you go and help someone on a premiere. That was a moment, then, and I was shocked by it. Evidently, something didn’t truly exist back then (days).

Concerning Pehla Nasha

Concerning Pehla NasPehla Nasha was a mystery-thriller for the uninitiated. Paresh Rawal, Pooja Bhatt, and Raveena Tandon all had significant parts in the film.
