The Hindi version of Mathukutty Xavier’s 2019 Malayalam hit Helen is titled Mili. The movie, which is allegedly based on real events, follows Janhvi’s character Mili as she fights for her life inside a freezer. The actor claims that the production crew built a special freezer where they spent 20 days filming at – 15 degrees Celsius.

At a press conference in Delhi, Janhvi recalled her experience and stated, “I remember it (the film) having a true toll on my mental health because I would come home after wrapping up the production and I would go to sleep and I got sick and had to take really strong medications for Within two to three days, even the director fell ill.

“It is not glamorous for sure if you spend 15 hours of your day in a freezer in a locked environment sobbing for the majority of the day, sometimes with a rat that keeps biting your fingers,” said Janhvi. She added that the director advised her to put on 7.5 kg for the movie in order to appear more relevant to the audience.

In addition to Janhvi, Mili also prominently includes Sunny Kaushal and Manoj Pahwa. Janhvi and her father Boney Kapoor, who is supporting the movie, are working together for the first time professionally. On November 4, 2022, the movie will be released in theatres. Filming the survival thriller “Mili” had a profound impact on Janhvi Kapoor’s physical and mental well-being. In the film, she portrays Mili Naudiyal, a nursing graduate who becomes trapped in a storage freezer, battling against time and the elements to survive. To authentically depict this harrowing experience, Kapoor underwent intense preparation and endured physically demanding conditions during the shoot.

Physical Challenges

The production team constructed a special freezer set where Kapoor spent approximately 15 hours daily over a month-long period. The environment was maintained at a temperature of minus 15 degrees Celsius to simulate the freezing conditions Mili would face. This exposure led Kapoor to fall ill, necessitating the use of severe painkillers for two to three days. She recalled, “I fell ill and I was on severe painkillers for two-three days and even the director was unwell.”
