Critic Review

Mohit Suri’s track record as a director has been excellent, so, when he comes to Malang, his expectations are equally good. In this film of Mohit, you get strong performance, but in the story, there is a mixture of many of his films.

The story of the film follows Advaita (Aditya Roy Kapur) who molests the other prisoners in the jail. He leaves from jail and calls police officer Anjani Agashe and tells him that he has to report a murder, which is going to happen. After that, the process of the dreadful killing of the policemen begins. Meanwhile, the story also goes into flashbacks, where Advaita met hippie type girl Sara (Disha Patni) in a Goa Adventure adventure. Mastamoula from London teaches Sarah Advaita how to live. Both are happy with each other, then a storm comes in their life.

Here, the process of killing of policemen in the present has not stopped. Michael Rodrigues (Kunal Khemu) is also involved with Anjani to solve the case of serial murders of his fellow policemen. Why is Advaita killing policemen? To know this, you have to watch the film.

Mohit Suri as a director specializes in such thriller films. This is the reason that the story begins in a thrilling style, but the scenes of flashbacks in the film prove to be an interruption in the pace of the thriller. As the story progresses, you begin to see glimpses of ‘Ek Villain’ and ‘Murder’. The story picks up after the interval but then becomes predictable. Mohit has taken Cinematic Liberty in many places. The climax is not surprising though pleasant. Malang’s title track has become effective in the music of Ved Sharma. It is ranked 6th in Radio Mirchi’s Top Twenty. Vikas Sivaraman’s cinematography adds to the thrill. Raju Singh’s background score is tremendous.

Every artist in the film has given a memorable performance. Aditya Roy Kapur as Advaita has proved himself in action-emotion and romance. The transformation of his body and body language in the film is capable-a-compliment. Disha Patni is very glamorous and beautiful. The emotional and romantic scenes between Aditya and Disha have become good. Anil Kapoor has acted brilliantly as a bad cop. In the role of the police officer of drudgery etc. and obeying his rules and regulations, Anil is in every way. Kunal Khemu as Michael has made a different character memorable on-screen. His character is at the center of the film and Kunal has proved that whenever he is given complex roles, he will be able to do justice. Eli Avram is doing well. The collaborative cast suits the subject.

Stephanie Hsu and Zosia Mamet talk about their new series Laid, and some of the horrors of dating as millennials.
Imagine a scenario where anyone and everyone you have ever been intimate with begins to die one by one. Is it a curse? If yes, then who is cursed? These are questions that Stephanie Hsu‘s Ruby battles with in the new zany comedy, Laid. Ahead of the show’s release, Stephanie and co-star Zosia Mamet spoke exclusively with HT about their roles, the show’s unique premise, and the horrors of dating as millennials. Stephanie Hsu on her character’s flawed morality

Laid, created by Nahnatchka Khan and Sally Bradford McKenna, is the story of Ruby (Stephanie Hsu), who discovers that all her sexual partners are dying one by one, and she must warn them. Helping her in this unique quest is her best friend AJ (Zosia). The fun thing about Laid is that the protagonists are not the usual likeable characters. “She is totally an anti-hero of our story. I really love that,” says Stephanie, referring to Ruby’s moral greyness. “I am not a perfect person and I love playing flawed characters. But it was difficult. The creators told me that she is a total narcissist. But narcissists don’t think they are one, so I had to figure out a way to love her. For me, playing Ruby was about getting into her psychology and finding the innocent part of her – which is that she just wants love,” the actor adds.

While sitcoms usually add the best friend as the voice of reason trope, Laid diverges from that, with AJ even zanier and more morally ambiguous than Ruby. Talking about playing such a colourful character, Zosia Mamet says, “When you play not-so-likable or zany characters, people don’t believe they are that way. I don’t think AJ wakes up every morning and thinks, ‘I am absolutely crazy’. It’s about trusting the writing and finding an organic way into these characters to make them seem grounded, real, and relatable.”

Stephanie, Zosia reveal the worst gifts they received from partners

In Laid, Ruby gives the gift of death to the men she is with, even if that is inadvertent. Ask the women about the worst ‘gift’ a partner has ever given them, and the discussions veer into the unusual horrors of modern-day dating. “I got a vintage wooden duck decoy from someone. It was broken, and I thought, ‘What does this say about our relationship?’. They didn’t know me well enough to know if I’d want this but also that they gave me something old and ailing,” Zosia says with a laugh.
